Many families have already discovered the hidden gem that is Gritts Fun Farm, open each September and October. Even if you have been to Gritts before, there is something new to discover with each visit on their more than 300 acres. Here are some of our favorite things to do each fall at Gritts.
We think autumn in Putnam County isn't complete without going to Gritts. We hope you'll plan a visit soon, and enjoy some of the other things Putnam County has to offer while you're here!
If we are what we eat, then we are awfully sweet here in Putnam County! There are plenty of unique places to satisfy your cravings for desserts, and we wanted to discover which sweets were necessary for our visitors and residents to try!
We asked locals their favorite places to sugar up, and compiled a list of must-have desserts.
Serendipity Cupcake Boutique
We’ve never met a cupcake that we didn’t like, but we REALLY like Serendipity’s Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes. We also hear the French Toast cupcakes, which contain snickerdoodle cake with maple syrup drizzled over cinnamon buttercream, are delicious…they sure sound delicious. Stop by next time you drive on Teays Valley Road for a treat (or two)!
Bridge Café and Bistro
Just because you have a gluten allergy, doesn’t mean you should miss out on any sweets! The Bridge Café and Bistro in Hurricane has gluten free desserts with quality ingredients, so you can feel less guilty about eating more than one, am I right? Their honey cupcakes seem to be a hit, as well as their carrot cake. We also can’t wait to try the infamous yam brownies!
Winfield Dairy Freeze
We know you’ve heard of “The Freeze” and all its signature desserts, but that just means you need to make a visit to the Town of Winfield for their delightful milkshakes and diner-like charm! The peanut butter milkshakes or Reese Cup Kandy Koolers are great for any sweet tooth, and their apple dumplings and pumpkin rolls will have you make another trip back.
Tammy’s Country Kitchen
If you love cake as much as we do, then Tammy’s Country Kitchen in Frazier’s Bottom is the place for you! Full of home-cooked food and desserts “just like you would find at your grandma’s house,” this southern restaurant offers delicious sweets that fulfill any desires. Some favorites include coconut cake, chocolate cake, “Pig Picking” cake, and cobbler.
Hidden Creek Mercantile
Amongst healthy snacks, salads, soups and sandwiches, The Hidden Creek Mercantile on Main Street in Hurricane is known for its delectable ice cream flavors. Pick up some Orange Pineapple or Peach ice cream, and sit outside under the umbrellas on a hot summer day!
